The Dolder Grand: After almost four years of conversion and restoration works, the Dolder Grand celebrated its re-opening in April 2008. Originally a “Curhaus” – health spa – the hotel was trans-formed into a luxury-class city resort. Located in a unique elevated position, between the city and the surrounding woodland, guests enjoy superb facilities, including tennis courts and a golf course. Lead-ing London architects Foster and Partners have combined the historic main building, dating from 1899, with the innovations of modern architecture. Two new wings, the Spa Wing and the Golf Wing, curve around the fully restored main building in a fusion of past and future.
Room categories range from single rooms to deluxe rooms and suites, variously dimensioned and appointed. Four top suites aim to cater for individual extravagance, inspired by Herbert von Karajan, Alberto Giacometti, Giulietta Masina and the Rolling Stones. The rooms and suites reflect the Dolder symbiosis of tradition and modernity. In the Main Building, the rooms’ refined, eclectic configurations instil a sense of history, while the two wings epitomize the spirit of the modern age.
The Restaurant offers fine dining, lunch-time and evenings while the sophisticated Garden Restaurant is open all day every day. Its menu comprises a wide variety of European-influenced dishes. The ter-races afford a magnificent view of the city of Zurich, the lake and the Alps. The lobby serves drinks, light snacks as well as a new selection of cakes and pastries daily. An unusual ocean of lights creates a unique atmosphere in the Bar, where live piano music and guest DJ appearances complete the mood.
