The name of the bar is inspired by its iconic location, right on the bank of the River Tagus (hence the “Rive”), in the popular neighbourhood of Cais do Sodré, which was once home to the city’s red light district (“Rouge”). The interior is tailored to fit the name, with blood red iron beams criss-crossing the roof of the establishment like Bulatov’s Skier. Petite tables and rustic wooden benches offer a cosy respite from the bustle of the main floor so that your meal retains an intimate feel. Later on in the evening, when the venue becomes a club, these nooks morph into the VIP areas – something you can experience by contacting our nightlife concierge ahead of time to guarantee your table.
Open from 1 pm until 8 pm every day except Monday, you can indulge in a spot of lunch or an early dinner here, drinking in the wonderful ambience and preparing for the latter portion of the night with a few glasses of wine. If you want something a little more unique, then there are house cocktails to sip on. There’s also an upstairs terrace for outdoor seating, so you can bask in the glorious Lisbon sun while enjoying your meal.
On Fridays and Saturdays, the venue reopens at 11 pm, and downstairs is transformed into one of Lisbon’s most exclusive nightclubs. Superstar international DJs and local heroes all gig here, so the music varies, but more importantly, the revellers who show up do so to dance, so the atmosphere never fails. Guestlist is almost certainly required, and the dress code is smart casual, although it’s never a bad idea to lean more towards the “smart” part of that suggestion.
Whoever is playing, they pump out the tunes until nearing breakfast time. Even so, drinks are always free-flowing, especially if you’ve snagged a private table.
